Book review: Making the Cut – Turning Pro in Sport, Business and Life – By Matthew Grady

It’s amazing how the universe (or in this case the LinkedIn algorithm) can connect you to just the right person at just the right time!

Over the past few months I have been developing an interest in the concept of corporate athleticism. In how my marathon training compares to training to run a company and how the factors that influence sporting performance can equally influence performance at work or in life. To that end I am about to embark on a masters in Performance Psychology under Neil B. at The University of Edinburgh.

In an unexpected turn of events though, I recently connected with former PGA Pro golfer, now executive recruiter Matt Grady – who it so happens has just released his first book on exactly the topic of bringing elite level sporting practices into the business arena!

Needless to say I bought the book at the first opportunity and read the whole thing in a weekend, I was so engrossed!

The book is excellent. Concise and easily digestible but absolutely packed full of tips. It takes you through Matt’s journey from childhood to pro golfer then into the corporate world. Filled with exercises, some of which will be familiar but perhaps framed in a new light and some insights that completely blew my mind.

I will need to go back through now and work through each concept in detail and spend time on the individual exercises but I can already tell that this is a book I will refer back to over and over again as the business builds. To that end I would like to express gratitude to Matt for sharing his learnings and for fuelling my enthusiasm for this topic even more so.
